Part one

For families

One-to-one online tuition, booked directly with me. Weekly slots in term time, with occasional intensive work before exams.

Courses

What I teach

Every course below is one I have taught to exam classes, not just revised from a textbook. Tell me the board and the paper and I'll work from that specification.

KS3 Maths

YEARS 7 TO 9 · KEY STAGE 3

Where the trouble usually starts. Most students who struggle at GCSE lost the thread somewhere in Key Stage 3 — negative numbers, fractions, or the first year of algebra — and then spent three years building on it. Fixing that at thirteen is far easier, and far cheaper, than fixing it at sixteen. Two students at the same level can be taught together.

GCSE Maths

EDEXCEL 1MA1 · AQA 8300 · OCR J560

Higher and Foundation. The work is understanding why a method works and why a wrong method fails — that is what stops the same mistake coming back in June. No rote memorising; the aim is a student who can start a question they have never seen before.

Additional Maths

AQA L2 FURTHER MATHS 8365 · OCR FSMQ 6993

The bridge between GCSE and A Level, taken alongside GCSE by students who find the Higher paper straightforward. It introduces calculus, matrices and proof a year early, and the students who do it well arrive in Year 12 already fluent in the algebra that catches everyone else out.

A Level Maths

PURE · MECHANICS · STATISTICS

Seventeen years teaching the A Level course, all three strands, with Edexcel and AQA in particular. Alongside the content we work on exam technique and on setting work out clearly, so an examiner can award every mark the method has earned.

Further Maths

CORE PURE · OPTIONAL MODULES

Core Pure plus the optional Further Mechanics, Further Statistics and Decision routes. Suited to students taking Further Maths alongside A Level Maths, and to those aiming at maths, physics, engineering or economics degrees.

Sessions

How sessions run

Sessions are on Microsoft Teams with a graphics tablet, so you see the working appear the way it would on a whiteboard. A student needs a reliable connection, a laptop or tablet, and paper. Face-to-face tuition at your home is available within reach of Aylesbury — the rate depends on the travel, so ask for a quote.

  1. A free 20-minute callWe talk about the year group, the board, what's going wrong and what the target grade is. No charge, no obligation.
  2. A starting assessmentFirst paid session is diagnostic: I find the gaps rather than assume them, and we agree what the next six weeks cover.
  3. A weekly slotSame time each week wherever possible. Sessions start and end on time; 24 hours' notice to cancel or move one.
  4. Work between sessionsPast papers, exam-board mark schemes and materials I've written, set to follow on from what we covered.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees

All sessions are 60 minutes and run at the same weekly slot in term time. Everyone books the same thing — what you choose is how you pay for it. The introductory call is free.

Option one

Pay week by week

An invoice each week for the session ahead. Sensible if you are starting out, or you don’t yet know how many weeks you will need.

  • The same slot is held for you each week
  • Stop or pause whenever you need to, with a week’s notice

Option two

Pay for ten up front

One invoice covering ten weekly sessions, at a lower hourly rate. Sensible once you know the tuition is working and you are running to an exam date.

  • The same slot is held for you each week
  • Valid for six months, so half terms don’t cost you sessions
  • If you stop early, unused sessions are refunded in full

Part two

For schools

Two things: specialist maths cover and intervention, booked directly rather than through an agency; and end-to-end digital transformation for school leaders, run by a teacher rather than a vendor.

Services and rates

What I can do for a department

Cover, intervention and departmental support, booked directly with me. Twenty years teaching maths, a department managed, and CPD and INSET delivered to colleagues — so your students get a subject specialist from the first period, and your department gets someone who already understands how the week fits together.

Digital transformation

Working with school leaders

Most edtech consultants come from a vendor or an IT background. I have run this from inside a school, as a teacher, alongside a full timetable — so the plan survives contact with a Tuesday morning.

I led the introduction of Google Workspace for Education across a grammar school, staff and students: INSET day training, ongoing CPD, student sessions, assemblies and the launch communications that carried it. I have worked with departments on using Outlook and Microsoft Teams properly, and on OneNote for Education for planning, marking and feedback. Alongside that, I bring in edtech tools where they earn their place and take them out where they do not.

The difference is the combination. Rollouts fail on adoption, not on technology — and adoption is a teaching problem. I hold PRINCE2 and Lean Six Sigma certifications and a cybersecurity certification, so the project runs to a method and the data protection questions get answered before your DPO asks them.

How a rollout runs

  1. DiscoveryWhat you have, what staff actually use, where the workarounds are, and what the leadership team wants the year to look like.
  2. Plan and pilotA written plan with phases, owners and dates. One department pilots it first, so the problems surface at small scale.
  3. Train before you launchINSET for all staff, targeted CPD for the confident and the reluctant separately, and student sessions with assemblies to carry the message.
  4. Launch and supportGo-live with comms, drop-in clinics in the first fortnight, and department champions who can answer the everyday questions.
  5. Embed and reviewUsage reviewed against what you set out to achieve, with a written handover so the school owns it rather than depending on me.
Digital transformation rate card

Every figure below is a starting point. What moves it: travel beyond Buckinghamshire, the length of the commitment, group sizes, and the scope we agree. You get a fixed quote in writing before anything is booked.

ServiceWhat's includedRate
Digital readiness review A day in school and a written roadmap: platforms in use, staff confidence, workflows, risks and a prioritised plan. from £750
Platform rollout
Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
End to end: discovery, plan, pilot, migration, staff INSET, student training, launch comms and post-launch clinics. from £4,500
per project, scoped after the review
Digital INSET or CPD Google Workspace, Teams, Outlook workflows, OneNote for Education, or an edtech tool you are adopting. from £750 / day
from £425 half · from £275 twilight
Department workflow clinic One department, one afternoon: communications, planning, marking and feedback in Teams and OneNote. from £425
Student digital skills Assemblies and year-group sessions: accounts, digital citizenship, and using the tools for learning rather than for chat. from £550 / day
Retained digital adviser A day a month across the term, with email and phone support between visits. from £2,100 / term

Rates are for direct booking. A readiness review is the usual starting point — it is a fixed price, it produces something you can take to governors, and it makes any larger project scopeable rather than speculative.

About

About Eb

Eb Otoo

I have taught secondary mathematics since 2006 — fourteen years at a comprehensive school in Hertfordshire, and since 2020 in grammar and independent schools across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Across those years I have taught every ability from Year 7 to Year 13.

Alongside the teaching I have managed a maths department, and I have led CPD and INSET for teaching colleagues — on exam technique, on teaching for understanding, and on getting Further Maths off the ground in a small department. Running a department teaches you where a cohort quietly loses marks, which is a different kind of knowledge from knowing the syllabus.

Over that time I have helped students reach top grades at GCSE and A Level, and go on to read mathematics and related subjects at leading universities — including plenty who arrived convinced they were "not a maths person". That belief is usually the first thing we have to fix.

Away from teaching I'm a father of two. I love music, and I cycle, play football and run. I haven't run a marathon yet. It's on the list.

Teaching history

  1. Grammar and independent schools in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire — KS3, GCSE, Additional Maths, A Level and Further Maths.
  2. Comprehensive school, Hertfordshire — KS3 to A Level.
  3. Departmental management; CPD and INSET delivered to teaching colleagues.
  4. Exam classes every year across Edexcel, AQA and OCR.

Terms

Tuition terms in brief

These cover private tuition booked by families. Schools are sent a separate engagement letter. The points that come up most often are below — or download the full terms as a PDF.

Punctuality and attendance

Sessions begin and end at the agreed time. If a student joins late, the session still ends at the scheduled time. A session missed without notice is charged in full.

Payment

Payment is in advance, on invoice, to Gabeth Limited trading as Gabeth Education Consultancy. Sessions may be booked individually or as a block of ten. If an invoice is unpaid by its due date I may pause future sessions until the balance is settled.

Cancelling or moving a session

Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule; inside 24 hours the session is charged in full. If I need to move a session I will give as much notice as I can and offer an alternative time. In a genuine emergency on either side, we will sort out a replacement session.

Technical problems

Students need a reliable internet connection, a computer or tablet, and Microsoft Teams. If a technical fault stops a session going ahead, it is rescheduled at no extra cost.

Confidentiality and recording

Anything shared in a session stays confidential and is used only to support the student's learning. Personal information is not passed to anyone else without consent. Sessions are not recorded or shared by either side without the agreement of both.

What I can and can't promise

I will prepare thoroughly and teach well. No tutor can guarantee a particular grade, and I don't. My liability is limited to the value of the sessions booked.
